Interdisciplinary Programmes

Smart Infrastructures

The Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Infrastructures is designed to enrich the profile of Master's graduates by providing them with competencies in the design and management of intelligent infrastructure systems. The programme aims to develop graduates with systems-thinking skills, an interdisciplinary perspective, strong digital competencies, and a focus on innovation and process optimisation.

Graduates will acquire advanced and specialised expertise in infrastructure systems and enabling technologies, complemented by cross-disciplinary skills that broaden their knowledge and support a holistic approach to the design, management, innovation, and lifecycle of smart infrastructures.

Upon successful completion of the programme, the Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Infrastructures qualification will be recorded in the student's Diploma Supplement and recognised through the award of a dedicated digital badge.

Who can apply

The Interdisciplinary Programme is open to Engineering students who can dedicate at least 25 ECTS credits to specialised training in Smart Infrastructures within the 120 ECTS credits required for their Master's Degree Programme. The study path has been specifically tailored to each participating Degree Programme.

Students enrolled in the following Master's Degree Programmes are eligible to apply:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Geoinformatics Engineering
  • Environmental and Land Planning Engineering
  • Automation and Control Engineering
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Computer Science and Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Energy Engineering
  • Management Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Telecommunication Engineering

How to apply

You can enrol in the Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Infrastructures when submitting your individual Study Plan.

The programme can be selected during the Study Plan submission process. For detailed information, please refer to the Academic Regulations of your Degree Programme.

Programme requirements

To complete the programme, students must earn at least 25 ECTS credits from educational activities relevant to the Smart Infrastructures profile, selected from Tables A and B. Specifically, students must obtain:

  • at least 15 ECTS credits from Table A;
  • at least 10 ECTS credits from Table B.

Where necessary, additional (extra-curricular) ECTS credits may be included in the Study Plan to fulfil these requirements.

Students are also required to participate in a mandatory workshop organised in collaboration with the Enel Foundation.

For a course to be recognised as part of the Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Infrastructures, at least one of the following conditions must be met:

  • the course selected from Table A or Table B must be included in the Study Manifesto of the academic year in which the student joins the programme;
  • the course selected from Table A or Table B must appear in the programme tables for the same academ

Failure to obtain the required 25 ECTS credits in activities related to the Interdisciplinary Programme in Smart Infrastructures does not prevent students from being awarded their Master's Degree.
